What Causes Shortness Of Breath And Heart Palpitations With Blurred Vision?

A dear friend of mine has been hospitalized for what seems to be a heart condition. While in the Dr. s office I hear him say something about a bundle branch block. My friend has never had any fainting episodes with rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, accompanied by blurry vision which ultimately leads to him passing out. What is the cause of this? And why now? He is a fifty year-old man who seems to be in very good shape.
