What Causes Shortness Of Breath And A Cyst In The Liver?

Hi, Few days back, I went to my physician for routine checkup. Since I was having gastric problems ,sometimes short of breath, he checked ecg, echo, X-ray of chest, and sonography of abdomen, apart from certain blood and urine tests. I am a bp patient, take medicine daily. After studying the sonography images, he told me that I have a big cyst in the right upper lobe of the liver. He asked me whether, I have fever, amoebiasis, or pain or jaundice. I replied that I have no such problems. He suggested Aspiration or FNAC. My Dr. is MD medicine. Should I go with his advice, He told me he will do Aspiration. Suggest me what should I do.

Hello and welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In simple liver cyst, nothing should be done except follow up. So in my opinion, since you are not having any symptoms (fever, jaundice, vomiting) no need for aspiration. Better to consult gastroenterologist and get done CT Abdomen because CT is more beneficial in deciding future plan. If CT is suggestive of benign cyst then no need for aspiration just get done follow up ultrasound after 6-8 months. But if CT is suggestive of either infection or malignant cyst then aspiration is needed.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
