What Causes Shooting Pain Throughout Left Leg?

Starting yesterday I was getting a shooting pain down my left leg from the top of my leg all the way down. The leg would then go a little numb. It is happening again today, not all the time but 8 to 10 times. It also happens a bit in my right arm. Feels like a shooting nerve pain. Any thoughts?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing shooting pain throughout your left leg. You have not given any medical history of your past illness. Your leg is getting a little numb and there is pain also in your right arm. Your symptoms may be indicative of peripheral neuropathy, sciatica, nerve damage / problem or developing rheumatoid arteritis or OA, etc.

If diabetic or hypertensive, maintain your blood glucose level and blood pressure level at all cost. If obese, do regular exercise and stay active. You should include food rich in vitamin B6, B12 and anti inflammatory food in your regular diet. You can also take supplements (Nevrup OD), once daily for 10 days. To get rid of pain you can take Combiflam or Naproxen, one SOS when needed after food.

Get clinically examined by a Neurologist, get Nerve conduction velocity tests, blood works, urinalysis, imaging tests done to detect the cause so that treatment can be started at the earliest. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
