What Causes Sharp Shooting Pain In The Vaginal Area?
I havr been experiencing a sharp, shooting pain thay seems to go up through my vagina when I stand up and walk. I have a SI joint injury and it seems to go to that area. I have occassionally had this before but now it has happened for the last 3 days.
The possible causes for sharp vaginal pain are first dependent on whether you are pregnant or not. If pregnant, sharp vaginal pain, felt deeply may indicate the cervix is softening or dilating in preparation for eventual labor. If you are less than 36 weeks this could be concerning depending on your pregnancy history and may require a call or visit to your doctor.
On the other hand if you are not pregnant vaginal pain felt sharply could be from a number of other causes. Sex is one possibility although this may be an indicator that something is wrong as sharp pain is not typically a normal side effect of sex unless perhaps you were close to having an orgasm and failed to do so. An STD would could cause these symptoms as well. A bladder infection could cause similar symptoms. In conclusion, if this happened once and went away I wouldn't sweat it. But if you are having repeated pains of this sort I would definitely get to your obstetrician or gynecologist.
