What Causes Sharp Radiating Pain From The Buttock To The Leg?

I woke up this morning with a sharp pain in my right buttocks, with the pain shooting down my leg all the way to my calf. I didn t hurt it doing anything physical, and don t have much of a medical history. Pain is constant, whether standing up or laying down. 50 year old, white male. 6 0 ...175 lbs. In decent physical condition. Thank you

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

It looks like you are suffering from Sciatica pain, sciatic nerve when compressed by piriformis muscle commonly results in pain radiating from the buttocks to the legs. Visit ER, get physically examined & evaluated.

You need anti-inflammatory medications, muscle relaxants along with physical therapy. You can take NSAIDS (Naproxen/combiflam) one SOS for relieve from pain. Rest, ice and heat are also effective. Maintain posture, exercise regularly & maintain healthy lifestyle.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr Nupur K
