What Causes Sharp Pain In The Inner Thigh Post Hip Replacement Surgery?

yes I recently had my second hip replaced on the right and now my left leg is not right. I get a muscle spasm not constant but once in a while. I do physio exercises 6 my main issue is the inside thigh on my left leg it feels like something biting inside it and I cant stand on it very long with out getting a pinch in that area. which brings me to my knees for about a second then it is over. being active walking biking does not bother me only when Im less active then the inside left leg acts up. I don t think its a blood clot but maybe the surgeon cut a nerve. Appreciate any advice you can give me Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are experiencing sharp pain in the inner thigh post hip replacement surgery. Presently you are having pain on your left leg and can't stand very long. The commonest cause of pain thigh after hip replacement surgery is overuse, over-stressing the operated hip. Commonly this type of pain is not long lasting and diminishes gradually. Do not over stress. You are suggested to get a follow up clinical examination done by your surgeon to rule out infection that may be causing you the symptoms.

The other factors that may cause pain are nerve damage, fatigue fracture of the pelvis, loose implant in the hip joint, ossification within the muscles, etc. You will be treated accordingly, do not neglect. Neglect will lead to worsening of the symptoms. Keep your affected leg raised on a stool when sitting or on a pillow when on bed for relief. Take pain medicine / anti-inflammatory medicines for relief. Your treating doctor may suggest ice and heat therapy for a better recovery.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
