What Causes Sharp Pain In The Hip To The Ankle On The Left Leg?

Hello, I am a 50 year old woman that has extreme sharp pain on one the left side hip all the way down the top on my leg to my ankle. Difficult and painful to walk and is waking me up at night with pain. Heat and warm compresses seem to help. Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

First of all it's sad to know what you had been going through lately.

Based on the history you have shared, it seems to be nerve pain or most likely sciatica, and may need X-ray lumbar spine and neurological examination or neurosurgeon review.

Meanwhile, OTC analgesics like acetaminophen or Ibuprofen may be helpful. Nerve pain suppressants like gabapentin may be required too.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
