What Causes Sharp Pain In Lower Abdomen Radiating To Vagina?

Hi. I had a full hysterectomy when I was 29 and I am now 33. I was never put on any type of medication after my hysterectomy. I am having moderate to severe pain that goes from my lower abdomen and shoots out through my vagina. It is a very sharp stabbing pain. What could it be?

Hello,

Since you have a history of full hysterectomy done and now are experiencing sharp pain in the abdomen that shoots from the vagina. Such symptom is commonly indicative of UTI, pelvic congestion, IBS, etc. You are suggested to get urinalysis (R/E and C/S) done. If it is UTI, you will need an oral course of antibiotics. It will be treated accordingly. Take care of your hygiene, avoid using public washrooms and toilets. Do not share your toiletries.

However, to stay on the safer side, get clinically examined by your gynae to rule out any complications post full hysterectomy. You may have to go through few tests, investigations and imaging tests to detect the factor causing your discomfort. Take plenty of water. In the meantime, you can take Spasmol (spasmo proxyvon), one SOS after food to ease discomfort. Antacids are also effective.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
