What Causes Sharp Pain In Calf While Being On A Plaster For Broken Foot?

Hi I have broken my right foot last Saturday and my leg is in a back slap plaster from the knee. Yesterday and today I have a pain in my calf like a cramp. It is fine when sitting with leg up but minute I move around it is excruciating! Should I go to my GP?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello. I understand your concern.
As it has only two days after your injury, swelling would be there in your leg which is getting compressed due to plaster and so you are getting cramp like pain. My advice is please carefully check your fingers of foot, check their colour and shape. If they are slightly going towards bluish colour, swelling and if you are feeling numbness there, you should immediately visit your doctor. This could be due to tight plaster cast.
Meanwhile your doctor would have advised you painkillers, continue that. Give few spells of exercise to your fingers and knee joint.
