What Causes Shaking Of Hands With Upper Body Vibration?

Hello. Very mild shaking in both hands. This has been happening for about a week with no worsening. For the past 2 weeks I ve been doing between 100-200 push-ups everyday, and some other upper body excercises that are new to me (especially in the intensity). I have never done 100-200 pushups per day before, and have never done the other upper body excercises this consistently for a 2 week period. I feel a slight shaking in both hands and an overall upper body vibration (if that makes any sense). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Shaking of hands is commonly due to essential tremors, neurological or anxiety disorders, stress, Parkinson's disease, multiple sclerosis (MS) etc. You are suggested to get clinically examined by a GP. Get neurological examination (tendon reflexes, gait, posture and co-ordination, etc), laboratory (CBC, urinalysis, thyroid disease, etc) tests and performance tests done. Your treating doctor may tell you to get Imaging tests done to detect the pathology causing you discomfort.

Physical therapy and exercises will help to improve your muscle strength, control and coordination. Occupational therapists can help you adapt to living with essential tremor and make better lifestyle changes. You will be treated with medicines (anti-seizure medications, tranquilizers, etc). Sometimes surgery may be recommended. Get treated at the earliest. Take vitamin B1, B6, B12 rich food or supplements.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
