What Causes Severe Vomiting And Diarrhea In Children?

Hi, I have a 6 yr old boy. He got sick in the early morning hours a few weeks ago. Vomiting & diarrhea. Vomiting lasted 24 hrs (maybe 3xs) diarrhea lasted 2-3 days. Then seemed to get better. Got sick again last week with vomiting and diarrhea. Episodes lasted a couple days again. Then better again for several days. Now, again today not feeling well and has started watery diarrhea again. What could be causing the recurrence??

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to a gastrointestinal infection. I recommend to give daily probiotics. I also recommend to use an over the counter option to treat the diarrhea such as Imodium. I suggest to take an electrolyte solution such as Pedialyte solution.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
