What Causes Severe Vomiting And Diarrhea Along With Seizure Attack?

I have a stomach flu. It began 3.30am on Friday morning. Severe vomiting and diarrhea. I had a seizure Friday evening but I think it is because I couldn t keep anything down. My brother wanted me to go to the hospital but I didn t. Can a seizure happen when you are in that state?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

If you have severe electrolyte disturbance like hyponatremia or potassium imbalance than convulsion can occur. In stomach flu convulsion or seizure is not usual presentation.

So your convulsion should be evaluated in detail and for that if needed EEG investigation also should be done along with electrolyte estimation

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Parth Goswami,
