Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Severe Tooth Sensitivity After A Root Canal Treatment?
Had a root canal a week ago and the tooth is extremely sensitive to pressure.. More so than it was before the procedure. I went in and had the dentist take a second look and she said there was no infection and no crack. Why is still so painful to chew on that side (usually accidental chewing)
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern..
As per your complain in case if you have such a severe pain post Root Canal Treatment then it can be most probably due to infection still lingering below the root tips of the tooth.. If there are high points in the tooth then it can cause sudden severe pain in tooth as it comes in contact with opposite jaw tooth..
I would suggest you to consult an Endodontist and get evaluated and x rays has to be taken from different angulation to rule out the cause..
First of all ask the Dentist to trim off the tooth at the cusps ( elevation at the chewing surface)..
Secondly the tooth will be retreated with Root Canal Treatment with prior medication permanent resolution.. You should also avoid chewing from the same side.. Take your food by cooling it to room temperature..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
