What Causes Severe Sore Throat?

What I thought was a sore throat seems more than that, very painful to swallow, like a knife pain. Have been given Levofloxacin, 750mg, and have taken two tablets but the pain remains eac time I swallow. Could this be more than a sore throat as it makes my ear painful. Should I stay on this drug or seek other help?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Well sometimes sore throat can cause a lot of pain and can also give ear pain as they are connected by Eustac tube and are near to each other. So don't panic you can have both due to this sore throat infection. You need to take you treatment in regular way for at least 7 day and than you will see that the pain will slow down till it ends. During this time you should have a healthy diet and plenty of water. I should suggest to have another control to your doctor in the end of the treatment to be sure everything is ok.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
