What Causes Severe Pain While Swallowing?

I had an extreme pain when I swallowed. The doctor tested both rapid and overnight for bacterial infection and both proved to be negative. Pain subsided after two days and has almost disappeared after three days. No fever of other symptoms, just the extreme pain while swallowing.

pain maybe cause of alcohol, gastric acid..
maybe any swelling in the oesophagus (tumour)
any access in the nasopharyngeal area, throat
