I have intermittent severe upper abdominal pain / spasms. My Gall Bladder was removed in 1997 so that isn t the problem. when a spasm happens, I have to get horizontal and wait out the pain. It stays in the area just below my rib cage. Frequency is about once a week; increasingly more often since the start.

Well the symptoms you mention in query can occur due to may reasons like constipation , gastroenteritis , acid reflux , kidney infection , crohn’s disease or kidney stones . Liver infection or swelling caan also cause such symptoms . I would suggest you to consult general surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order blood test , ultrasound and x-ray to confirm the diagnosis . Doctor may refer you to gastroenterologist or nephrologist for gastric problem or kidney problem respectively . For now avoid eating spicy and heavy food , take smalla dn frequent meals and take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain .
