What Causes Severe Pain In Throat?

I have been suffering from severe throat pain/problems since early High School. I am now 30 and my ENT has suggested that i have my tonsils removed and a vein cauterized in my throat to stop some bleeing that i have when i sleep. the reason he says is that my tonsils are abnormally big(w/o infection) and prone to infections. I get Step and Mono at least once each a year. I was wondering if there are any other remedies that could possibly help or would surgery probably be my best option? Will a Cpap machine not help?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Noted a history about a 30 year old male having recurrent throat problems since childhood, enlarged tonsils which your ENT Surgeon has advised to get removed, getting Strep and Mono every year, wants to know whether CPAP will help.
Since you are talking about CPAP means you have sleep apnea and if this is due to excessive enlargement of tonsils then removal of tonsils will help permanently.
It is also necessary to find out the cause of this which may be in the form of sinusitis.
I would advise you to talk to your ENT Surgeon to find out the cause, get the CT scan and relevant blood tests and if found out to be positive then get the complete medical and/or surgical treatment.
Go for permanent solution

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
