What Causes Severe Pain In The Lower Back?

I am having very severe pain in my lower back on both sides of my spine. I have not been injured, have not pulled any muscles, and have never experienced pain in this area before. It started this morning with a sharp stabbing pain. When I stand from a sitting position it is worse. I have had heat on the area for about 20 minutes but it only seems worse. I have been ill for about 5 days. Did not see a physician as it seemed to be what has been going around the office

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I understand your concern and would explain that your symptoms could be related to a musculoskeletal pain (lumbar distortion).

I recommend having some rest and taking painkillers.

If your symptoms persist, I recommend going to the ER for a physical exam, a lumbar spine X-ray study and an abdominal ultrasound (to exclude kidney stones.)

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
