What Causes Severe Pain In The Legs, Knees And Ankle Joints?

about a month and a half ago I started having significant pains in my legs. After driving fo five hour trip three weeks ago (may or may not be relevant) I have started having severe pains in my knees, ankle joints and legs. I am on Plavix due to a heart attack and can t take asprin, 75 mg Plavix, 80 mg Lipitor and 100 mg Zoloft. I ve been on all three medications for 7 years. The pain seems sudden in onset. It is worse when I lay down.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I read your message and understood your problem.

I came across this information:
- pain in legs since one month and a half ago
- 3 weeks ago pain is spread in knees, ankle, leg
- drugs: Plavix, Lipitor, Zoloft

The symptoms you have (muscle and joint pain) are common side effects of the drugs (especially Zoloft) you have been taking for 7 years till now.

I think you must consider the option of doing further tests and contact a doctor. We need to determine if these symptoms are just drug side effects or if they have another cause. Discuss with your doctor the option of substituting these drugs with other drugs and see how the pain will progress.

Arthritis is a possible cause. An orthopedic examination with specific tests may be needed.

Hope this helped.
