What Causes Severe Pain In The Left Leg And Calves While On Metoprolol?

I am taking 75 mg. daily of metoprolol and have been experiencing severe left leg calf pain.I read on the internet that metoprolol can cause leg and arm pain.I want to ween myself off metoprolol and see if my leg pain goes away.My primary care doctor hasn t gotten back with me. What dosage should I begin with to ween myself of metoprolol or can I just stop taking it altogether? Rick

Short answer: Please do not stop taking Metoprolol without your doctor's advice. Just stopping it altogether may cause significant problems.

There could be a number of causes for your leg pain. The best approach for such a problem is to have it examined by a doctor who can decide on further management depending on clinical assessment. Metoprolol may cause some joint aches or pain in the distal parts of the limbs in some patient. But, correlating severe calf pain in one leg with Metoprolol only is not a good idea. This way, other significant causes of the pain could be missed which might prove dangerous.
