What Causes Severe Pain In The Eyes?

I m a senior, female and I have dry days, and I m using eye drops for it at night and sometimes after I wake up in the morning. At times I experience a very sharp pain in my eyes (mostly the left one) and mostly when I first wake up when I instinctively open the eyes. What causes this very sharp pain? It does gradually subside to no pain after a while (15-20 min.)

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It might be an early sign of conjunctivitis. We have to rule out other conditions like glaucoma also.

It is better to consult an ophthalmologist and check the intraocular pressure.

As of now, you can take analgesics like Acetaminophen for pain relief.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
