What Causes Severe Pain In The Abdomen?

Husband is having severe intestinal pain. He is currently going through treatments for stage 4 cancer. We both are chicken salad sandwiches for dinner. I m not feeling sick so I doubt it s food poisoning. He says the pain feels like a sword going through his gut.
