What Causes Severe Pain In Outer Thigh While Walking Post Hip Replacement?

HI, my mother is 86 years old with a history of fractured hip that required 2 surgeries. After the first, the device came up through the head of the femur so she had a total hip replacement. That was about 7 years ago. Lately, she began complaining of pain in her outer thigh mid way down from hip. It does not hurt when lying down, but is severe when walking. Is this something I should pursue . she saw her family doctor who felt it was strain. Then I had to take her to the ED for pain. They said to take pain mess and apply heat, but nothing helps.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

There should not be a substantial amount of pain after 7 years of hip replacement surgery. Sounds to be due to chronic ligament spasm, nerve compression or else which has to be evaluated with a CT scan of the operated part for further guidelines of cure.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Purva Patel,
