What Causes Severe Pain In Neck Of A Child?

My 7 yr old daughter hurt her neck somehow . I m not sure how, except we were playing at the park with our dog and she likes to get on the ground and roll around, she also slid down a play structure pole kind of fast and smacked her behind on the ground, but she says not hard. Right now her neck is painful to the touch on the left side, she can look down and turn neck to right without pain, but looking up or turning to the left is painful.

Hi, I'm dr.Fahad Khan. i have read your case and I'll try my best to be of utmost help.
Firstly, you need to have an x-ray of cervical spine done ASAP to rule out any spine dislocation etc because in children the bone structure is in developing phase and a hard blow is not must to cause any bone pathology.
Secondly, look for any bruises over that area because it could be just a bruise that's causing her pain, or could be a muscle sprain . Once you get your x-ray cleared by the radiology people i think there's no need to worry after that. Just apply some painkiller ointment over that area and massage it thoroughly, that'll relieve the pain.
Regards.
