My father age 91 is complaining of intense mid back pain accompanied by urgent need to defecate. His stools are usually very loose, but not typically watery. Their color range from green to dark brown to blackish sludge. His output is certainly more than his intake, most days having 3-4 bowel moments. He also suffers from Alzheimer s and is unable to describe his pain in much detail other than my back is killing me. He has also had 3 episodes of pancreatitis over a 2 year period. Gallbladder surgery is not recommended because of his high risk. He has had 2 mild to moderate heart attacks and is on Warfarin and Plavix. The bowel problem is of recent onset.
