What Causes Severe Pain At The Base Of The Left Thumb?
base of my left thumb by my list is very painful when I do simple tasks like pulling hair off my hair brush. It s been going on for 2 weeks now and I m right handed. I got a soft splint that goes around my thumb and just below my writs. I m on Meloxicam for osteoarthritis of both knees. Should I immobilize my thumb more than I already have?

it can be tendon tear or hairline fracture. take x-ray of effected thumb and consult orthopaedic surgeon. take advise from surgeon. it appears to be over use of thumb and injury. you have not given your age. exclude diabetes. ra factor may be done. give some rest to thumb. regarding i mobilization take advise from orthopaedic surgeon after examination and diagnosis.
