What Causes Severe Pain And Swelling In The Hand?

I had sharp stabbing pains on the top of my hand. Consistent stabs about every 20 seconds for about 10 minutes. Pain stopped, but now my vein is obviously swollen. Right hand...and I m right handed. I m 47. I know it s not signs of a heart attack. Blood clot? Pain came on suddenly.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your symptoms seem to be related to a blood clot.

Some bits of advice that I can give to you are examinations to confirm the diagnosis. You should do:
- An ultrasound of the hand.
- Platelets level.
- Coagulation time level.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
