What Causes Severe Pain And Swelling In The Foot Post A Self Injury?

I hit a cement step with a scooter about 5 weeks ago. At that time I had a large hematoma to my lower leg and I had some swelling to my foot. SInce that time the swelling has not gone down in my foot and the mid foot, especially by the inner arch is painful. The foot and ankle swelling does not go down, even with elevation.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Some of the swelling may be due to the formation of fibrous/scar tissue in the area of trauma.
This can take months to resolve

Persisting pain may mean that you should consider an x ray to rule out bony damage if you have not had one previously.

If this is normal then it means that the injury is only soft tissue and rest, warm compresses and anti inflammatory pain medication may be enough.

I hope this helps
