What Causes Severe Pain Across The Incision Site After Knee Replacement Surgery?

I had total knee replacement surgery 4 weeks ago. Am in physio therapy 2x week. All has been going well until yesterday. When doing exercises I had a burning searing pain beside the top 1/3 of my incision line when doing my stretches. My therapist used acupressure & pain subsided. Today, while doing exercises at home I am experiencing that same pain again. Tried acupressure , but didn t work. Is very painful, brought me to tears. Is this normal? Someone said maybe it was nerves regenerating. Thank you for your help. Alice

Physical Therapist or Physiotherapist 's  Response
Hello,

As the incision pain is common which may be burning, tingling, numbing etc. This happens due to stretch of the tissues and which is common.

Do gentle kneading massage around the incision site to make it relax and flexible, which will help the tissues to loosen up. Continue knee bending and get a range of minimum up to 110° in the replaced joint. Continue physiotherapy exercises under a guided physiotherapist.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
