What Causes Severe Nose Bleed Despite Having An Ear Infection?

Hello, Last night my 5 yr old was screaming of ear pain. Never once has he ever cried over a simple ear infection.. But this time i felt as if something else was wrong. Then his nose started to bleed, not alot, but enough to cause concern on mommys end. I took him to the ER, His ear then started to bleed. The doctor cleaned it out and then did a scoop of ear wax, which then caused it to bleed even more along with another nose bleed. They stated it could just be an ear infection, or a ruptured eardrum. But I still feel very uneasy with that diagnosis. He never cried of pain. What are your thoughts? He does have an appointment this evening with his pediatrics, but I also want another thought on this situation.

Thank you,
Regards,
Ashley the very concerned mommy

Hi Dear ,

Welcome to HCM,

Understanding your concern . As per your query you have symptoms of severe nose bleed despite having an ear infection. Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query infection, trauma, allergic and nonallergic rhinitis, hypertension , use of blood thinning medications and alcohol abuse . But in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are either due to hypertension or sinusitis. Need not to worry. I would suggest you to consult neurologist or ENT specialist. For now take ibuprofen or acetaminophen for pain and take steam thrice a day. Apply ice pack on nose and put pressure on nose while bleeding. You should not touch or prick nose with any sharp object.

Hope your concern has been resolved.

Get Well Soon.

Best Wishes,
