What Causes Severe Muscle Cramps In Legs And Feet?

My son has severe muscle cramps especially in his legs and feet. He has been taking glipizide to control his blood sugar. Is it possible that is causing the cramping? He takes quinine and magnizium as well. Sorry for the spelling. Could you give some advise?

Welcome To HCM
This is Dr Amit. Let me help you in this case.
In my opinion neither Glipizide nor Quinine causes muscle cramps. Muscle cramps can occur in very initial stage of diabetic neuropathy but as you have not mentioned the type, duration of diabetes so i can not pinpoint the diagnosis.
You have also not mentioned why he is taking quinine as one of the side effect of quinine is hypoglycemia which can cause trouble as your son is already on oral hypoglycemic drugs.
I will advice you to do the neurological examination and the blood tests for Sugar and Vitamin B12 after taking advise from the physician.
Feel free to ask if you have any other query.
Regards
