What Causes Severe Hot Flashes And Night Sweats?

I am on Firmagon. As my Urulogist warned me, I ve had hot flashes and night sweats from the outset. Recently is seems that the hot flashes and night sweats have become more intense and seem inexorably connected with the urge to urinate. Is this normal? I ve been on the hormone therapy for about 8 months.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Firmagon is Degarelix prescribed in case of advanced prostate cancer commonly. It belongs to anti-neoplastic drug group and it also inhibits the androgen secretion. It inhibits GnRH that is Gonadotrophin releasing hormone. Common side effects are hives, flushing, warmth, sweating, weight gain, unusual tiredness and weakness, constipation, etc. Difficulty in micturition is also side effect of the drug. Plenty of water helps little to overcome the symptoms. Discuss with the doctor for duration and alternates for the drug.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
