What Causes Severe Hair Loss While Taking Neomercazole For Graves Disease?

Hi, I am a midforty women, been recently diagnosed with Graves disease, currently taking Neo-Mercazole 5mg, four pills twice daily. Initially I was prescribed 3 pills twice daily, but about four weeks ago the quantity was increased to 4. Since I have started to take four, I have also started to lose alot of my hair, and also have developed other unpleasant symptoms such as pain(cramps) in my fingers and palms. Most concerning for me right now is the hair loss, is there any alternative to this treatment or something else to help stop the hair loss? Thanks, Iuliana.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you can consult your endocrinologist because you may be taking 4 pills and you may really need 3 of them. Taking needed dosages may help you with your symptoms. Using minixidil is an alternative of hair growth.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
