What Causes Severe Hair Loss In An Elderly Person?

I have hair loss on the top and sides of my head. The dermatologist thinks it is male pattern balding. I am a 75 year old female. I wonder if any of my medications could be causing it. My parents were divorced and he left so I do not know if there is baldness on my paternal side of the family. There is none on my mother s side. I have no living siblings. An endocrinologist has performed blood tests and my testotorian (sp?) male hormones, are slightly elevated. None of my doctors recommend female hormones due to the possibility of ovarian cancer. I am willing to take the risk.

Hello,

Since you are having androgenic alopecia you can use Minoxidil. Don’t take estrogen as it can cause cancer.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards
