What Causes Severe Hair Loss After Taking Amoxycillin And Clarithromycin?

I had a severe upper respiratory infection in december and took both amoxycillin and clarithromycin over a 2 week period. In the last month my hair has been falling out to an extreme degree. Could the antibiotics have caused this to start 2 months later? It s really, really bad -- almost like you d see in chemotherapy.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

Transient hair loss can happen after a bout of viral fever. It is not related to your antibiotics but due to fever.

Nothing much to worry and will settle by itself.

As of now, drink plenty of water and take zinc containing multivitamins.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shinas Hussain,
General & Family Physician
