What Causes Severe Gastritis Along With Abdominal Pain And Constipation?

have extreme gas, stomach pain and some constipation. Have been to a doctor who thoroughly tested me and believed it had to do with taking an opiate for pain for about 3 years. How long before the opiate wears off and should I be taking something for relief of gas or a probiotic?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Opiate consumption over a period of time is known to sluggish the intestine peristalsis and major concern for constipation and abdomen cramps. As there is a period of 3 years, wearing off the effects usually takes around 2-3 weeks minimum and in some cases even months.

My guidelines at present:
- Plenty of liquids
- Proton pump inhibitor as omeprazole with gut motility agents as itopride
- Bulk forming laxative as Ispaghula husk or 5 HT 4 agonist prucalopride acting on gut receptors
- Aerobics, walking and other exercises
- Pre and pro biotics with lacto bacillus and enterogermina

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
