What Causes Severe Fatigue And Muscle Ache While Suffering From A UTI?

My mother was hospitalized 3 weeks ago with a severe UTI requiring a 3 day stay. She had mitral value replacement 9 years ago. My question is could the UTI have affected the heart value. She has extreme fatigue (sleeping all the time), difficulty with balance and muscle aches and pains. She has swelling in both ankles also.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Please note that UTI can cause infective endocarditis on the replaced valve but it will lead to signs and symptoms of infective endocarditis and usually confirmed by echocardiography.

Contact a local doctor as he will check for examination.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Varinder Joshi , General & Family Physician
