What Causes Severe Fatigue And Excessive Sleeping?

I had an unusual incident a few days again ago. We had just flown bed back from Mexico. The person who sat next to me was very ill, and slept through the flight, getting up to throw up twice, and seemed out of it. Two mornings later, when I got up to get ready for work, I felt fine. Read the paper, took a shower. And woke up in my bed at 230. My husband tells me that I came up the stairs to our bedroom making moaning noises, sat on the top stair and then lay down in a fetal position. Could answer his questions but seemed out of it. He called 911, my vitals were ok, and I threw up. They then ot me in bed. I slept for 6 hours, woke up briefly to ask my husband what happened, and the wake up 3 hours later with no recall of anything since takin the shower. Wet to the ER - r/o cvs, no mass (did MRI and Ct) for the two I ve days since, I can t get out of bed - am sleeping 20 hrs a day. Try to get up to go o work and can t. Nothing like this has ever happened to me before. Am seeing a neurologist next week. What in the world could this be? The only thin of note when I was in a Mexico were some bug bites. I gave got to get back to work.

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

In my opinion, there is no reason to be worried and usually this is just temporary and self limiting. Excessive daytime sleepiness is common issues and should be considered in this case. Excessive daytime sleepiness may be caused by conditions such sleep deprivation, metabolic disturbances, sleep apnoea, medications, neurological disorders such seizures and psychiatric disorders such depression. If emotional causes are ruled out then some tests can be done to confirm the diagnosis.
In my opinion, polysomnography ( sleep study ), is one of the necessary examinations in order to achieve a correct diagnosis.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
