What Causes Severe Diarrhoea After Taking Omnicef?

I am a 28 year old female diagnosed with IBS D. I am currently taking omnicef for strep throat. It has given me diarrhea. Worse than usual. I have noticed when I wipe after a BM there are brown specks on the toilet paper. Is this normal? This happened before the antibiotic as well. Should I be concerned?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Omnicef is an antibiotic. It has aggravated your diarrhea from IBS as it is impairing intestinal flora.

Should take probiotics to stabilize intestinal flora. Antacids to stabilize stomach pH.

If still diarrhoea, should consult with your caring doctor as might need prescription meds like antifungal or run culture and sensitivity testing of stool.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Albana Sejdini, General & Family Physician
