What Causes Severe Cramps And Nausea On My Right Thigh?

Last night I had a severe muscle cramp on my right inner thigh which caused me enormous pain whereby I became very hot , sweaty and nauseated. The pain was excruciating as if a knife was digging into my muscle. I was also very thirsty after the incident. I had been on my feet and going up and down the stairs numerous times because I was hosting Christmas at our house. Was this because I was on my feet too long .What can I do next time this happens? Walking it out made it worse.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi, thank you for posting.

I have gone through your query and I understand your concerns.

Muscular cramps, in general are caused by low level of electrolytes(sodium and potassium) and low thyroid hormone level.
Conditions such as diarrhea, vomiting and sweating(like in your case) can lower the level of electrolytes.
In general muscular cramps is caused by overwork, stress and anxiety.

You need the following tests:
1. Doppler ultrasound, to check the conditions of blood vessel in thigh.
2. Blood test(electrolytes count).
3. Glucose test, to exclude Diabetes mellitus.
4. Urine test.

The results if these tests will determine the diagnosis.

Please consult your psychologist and your angiologist.

I hope this information helpful.

Regards.
Dr. Behar.
