What Causes Severe Coughing At Night?

Hi, for the past ten days or so I have had really bad coughing episodes at night making it hard to sleep. I rarely cough during they day but as soon as I lay down and am trying to fall asleep there are strong tickles in the back of my throat and I spend the next few hours awake coughing and wheezing. I have a bit of a stuffy nose but no symptoms aside from these. What could this be?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Based in the fact that your cough is related to the body position, the symptoms can be related to a stomach issue.

It can be acid reflux which causes the cough. I suggest using a medication to lower the acidity in the stomach such as Omeprazole in the morning and evening.

It can be found over the counter. I also suggest to avoid eating two hours before sleep and avoid food that can trigger the symptoms.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
