What Causes Severe Cough Along With Green Phlegm?

Hi, I ve had cold like symptoms for almost two weeks now. Firstly, I was coughing up green phlegm with an extremely irritating and hacking cough, feeling drained, run down etc. My chest is very tight and trying to sleep is nearly impossible. The cough has just progressively got worse and the phlegm has gone to clear and frothy to grey specs in. Do you suggest I see my GP? Thanks.

Hi Dear,

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe cough along with green phlegm which is due to upper respiratory tract infection. It could be due to sinusitis, granular pharyngitis and tonsil stones. I would suggest you to consult ENT specialist for proper evaluation and get it diagnosed. you should go for blood tests, sputum tests and X-ray chest done along with pulmonary function tests to know about exact extent of infection. You should take antibiotic Levofloxacin along with antihistamine. Take nebulization with salbutamol and pulmicort. You should do warm saline gargles and avoid hot and spicy food. Avoid exposure to allergens.

Hope your concern has been resolved.
