What Causes Severe Chills?

My wife, age 75, will suddenly get very cold to the point she feels sick. Clothing doesn t seem to help, if fact if they are cold , she won t wear them. They have to go into the dryer first. She does have dementia which might be a factor. Blood test for thyroid condition, etc. revealed nothing and showed her to be in good health overall. ???
