What Causes Severe Burning Sensation On Skin?

The other night my skin felt like it was burning, as if I had a really bad sunburn, but there was no redness on my skin. Since then, warm, even lukewarm water makes my skin feel as though I am running extremely hot water. Cooler water makes my skin feel as if I have my hands in ice buckets. Is there an explanation for this?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A burning sensation can happen due to a variety of conditions. It doesn't necessarily indicate a skin problem. If you don't have any skin lesion I suggest to check glycemic level. Diabetes is one of the common causes of the burning sensation on the skin due to neuropathy.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
