What Causes Severe Burning Facial Pain?

My 41 year old son Ken has burning facial pain. Psychiatrist thinks he needs to be on Zoloft. Again, he is in great pain. No doctor has given him any pain medication. He cannot work lately. It is getting worse. He had a facial injury moving a heavy cabinet 11 years ago, and the burning started. A Plastic Surgeon saw a problem on a CT and though no ENT or Neurologist offered any help, this surgeon broke Ken s nose and moved it. The pain stopped. Now 9 years later, the pain is back worse than before. Ativan helps calm him. What will Zoloft do that is better than Ativan?

Hi
Zoloft contains sertraline salt. The cause of facial burning pain is Trigeminal Neuralgia for which your doctor is prescribing Zoloft which is better than Ativan (Lorazepam). Past history of injury does not seems to be related to the problem

I think better choice shoul be Gabapentine / Pregabalin in such case and is available in combination with B12. Kindly suggest to your doctor for such alternative.

Take Care
