Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
This evening while preparing dinner I came down with a chill that went beyond anything else I ve ever experienced. I was shaking uncontrollably and had to leave the table and go to bed until it passed. I didn t have a fever just an incredible chill that I couldn t shake. It eventually went away after more than an hour of shaking in bed fully dressed under the covers. It s not cold outside, in fact, it was a beautiful 70 degree day in Connecticut.
Hello and welcome to HCM, Sudden chills and rigors are seen in certain infections. Malaria is one such parasitic infection which causes chills and rigors in case it is prevalent in your part of world. Other causes include bacterial and viral infections. Bacterial causes are cholangitis, urinary tract infection, salpingitis, pneumonia, tuberculosis etc. Viral infections like flu, viral gastroenteritis etc can also lead to chills and rigors. I suggest you to get a complete blood hemogram and see your primary healthcare provider for clinical assessment, relevant investigations and thus management.
Thanks and take care Dr Shailja Puri
