What Causes Severe Back Pain Along With Muscle Spasms And Numbness In Toes?

Having thoracic back pain. Gets worse as day goes on. Have positive of back injury in 1980 (lifting a patient). Have had flares in the past but can t seem to get away from the pain. Had a fall on 11/10/15. Mid-December I went to PCP because of back pain, muscle spasm, and change of sensation in three toes of right foot. I have appointment with a back doctor on Thursday, but am miserable. Can you help?

Welcome to HCM.

Understanding your concern. As per your query you have severe back pain along with muscle spasms and numbness in toes . Well there can be many reasons for symptoms you mention in query like , but in your case it seems to me that the symptoms are due to nerve injury , pinched or compressed nerve ( Sciatica ) , which may occur due to your disc bulged problem . I would suggest you to continue exercises , apply hot compresses on back and take proper rest . I would suggest you to consult orthopedic surgeon for proper examination . Doctor may order X-ray , MRI , CT scan and electromyography . Doctor may prescribe anti-inflammatories , muscle relaxant , tricyclic antidepressants and anti-seizure medications . Doctor may also recommend physical therapy along with steroid injection and surgery .
