What Causes Severe Anxiety And Depression After Taking Venlafaxine?

I was had been on venlafaxine xr for 20 + years... I have severe withdrwal symtoms... when they were trying to reduce.. the pharmacy made a mistake and gave me venlafaxine (non extended release) - I did not realize it.. after 2 weeks of taking it instead I was having anxiety disorders, trouble staying at work ( I just felt I needed to leave) and suicidal thoughts.. is there a difference between the 2

Hello i just read query and from what you mention its unlikely that the error of extended and non extended release form of the drug has to do anything to cause the symptoms you describe.However it is more likely that the symptoms which you are experiencing are more due to the venlafaxine withdrawal effects and it is slighlty exaggerated in your case because of the long duration for which your body got used to it.
The withdrawal effect will last in the following way usually-
After 2 to 3 weeks there is continued improvement and the beginning of more normal behaviour with less impact of the side effects.
After 2 to 3 months full recovery of personality at the end of the process. Presumably there is ongoing recovery and benefit in this time frame.

However since you are having an extreme form of withdrawal effect i suggest you see a doctor close to you as soon as possible.
