What Causes Severe Aggression And Anger While On Hydrocortisone?

My son was put on Hydrocortisone tablets a week ago for cortisol deficiency. The past few days he has been very distraught and has had major out bursts of aggression and anger. He has been hitting me and exploding very angrily over something very small and that normally would not bother him such as just turning the tv down. By the way he is 6 years old. He would hit me and threaten to kill me and throw things etc. I have mentioned some of this to his doctor worried that it could be an adverse reaction to the medicine and she keeps telling me that that could not happen with this medicine. He is also on a bunch of other medicine that he has been on for a long period of time.

Yes, your doctor is correct. It is highly unlikely that hydrocortisone to be the reason for this above described behaviour. Hydrocortisone at times can cause excitation in some patients but aggressive behaviour is not heard of.
You have failed to mention about the other medicines that your son is on. Probably one of them might be the cause. I would advice a thorough evaluation by a psychiatrist with full disclosure of all the medicine intake.
I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
