What Causes Severe Abdominal Pain Post Hysterectomy?

Hi. I had a hysterectomy 9 weeks ago. I also had a subtotal colectomy 13 years ago. Now I m having terrible abdominal pain between my ribs and down the center of my abdomen. It hurts to lay on my back. Pressure and throbbing is deep in my abdomen. I m slim and fit. So not a weight issue. Dr said it might be gastritis but I am being treated for it with no relief. Any suggestions ?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Welcome to health care magic,

The infection after any surgery can cause close-cavity infection.
It could be close-cavity infection on the right side above the pelvic bone.

I would suggest you to undergo urgent high resolution ultrasonography to watch for an abscess; if present re-exploration is the best way to drain the abscess and put in a drain to avoid further complications like septicemia and bacteremia.

The terrible pain is again suggestive of an active inflammatory process.

So,you should go for complete blood picture, kidney functions tests, blood sugar fasting and post-prandial blood sugar.

Urine- routine, microscopy, culture and sensitivity can also be done.

This will certainly help you to recovering faster and completely.

Pus culture and sensitivity has to be insisted upon.

Consult your operating gynecologist for further advise.

Regards,
